But it's also a book for readers, shining a light on the wide variety of patterns in stories that help to explain why these stories matter, why they move us. The author is an academic, and I can totally see this book being used in undergraduate and graduate classrooms. But as someone who is *not* an academic and just a lifelong reader, I so appreciated this new way of looking at the books and stories I love and why I might love them."

- This is the kind of book that a writer should keep on their desk like a manual. Jane Alison's ideas about structuring and telling stories in new ways will make you excited to tell stories, write them, design them, play with them, make them new again. A truly important book.
