Yona of the Dawn Vol 7 Mizuho Kusanagi Books Reviews

  • Great volume! As the Awa arc draws to a close, we see the turning point in Yona's continuing journey towards strength and independence. We also see subtle growth in some of our other main characters, specifically Yun and Jaeha. The art, as always, is gorgeous and the characters are engaging. This is where the plot really starts to pick up, so I can't wait to get physical copies of the next volumes!
  • I've read this manga online and enjoyed it so much, that I decided to purchase the entire series published so far. This is such a wonderful story with a strong female heroine who grows and evolves with each Volume. I love all of the characters in this and can't wait to see how the tale ends. Rooting for Hak! Also, the anime follows the story well, so if you love these volumes, you might want to check it out.
  • Just started reading this volume of this amazing series. I love the art and how the storyline is heading. Can't wait for volume 8 to come out.

We end the pirate plot in this volume—they take down the slave-trafficking ships, Yona takes a stand, and then they all celebrate. Then they have to say goodbye, and it's a sad parting for all of them. After all of that commotion, we get a surprise visit from Suwon. I saw this in the anime, so I knew it was coming. I think it hit me harder in the manga, given Yona's reaction and her inner thoughts while hiding. But, I am rather confused by Suwon's reaction, and what his intentions are in the future. I'm just not sure about him. Though, at this point, I still don't think I like him, in general.

And then Yona and her five companions are off, in search of the last dragon. That will be left to the next volume, though, because this one ends with a little comedic reprieve. Yun finds a scale of the white dragon being sold as a love charm, and it causes quite hilarity and adorableness.

I'm glad that after this, we get mostly new stuff after the anime. I'm really looking forward to meeting the last dragon, and to see what happens after that. I love this series, and cannot wait for more.

(Wouldn't it be amazing if these were monthly releases?)

  • In the continuation of the Awa pirates arc, Yona and Yoon are undercover to aid the pirates in saving the ship full of trafficked girls, while the crew and her dragons and Hak are attacking the main ships. It is dangerous for Yona because of her distinct features (red hair is rare in this kingdom, I am guessing, and yet she went out without disguising it *shakes head*) and while Yoon comes to her aid, ultimately she saves the day. Also, she finds a motherly figure in the captain Gi-Gan (that part was so good!) and they all can finally move on knowing that they have helped Awa from a tyrant.

Yona's fearsome eyes make an appearance again in this arc, as well as her mighty skills with the bow. She is fierce, ya'll and I can't wait for this princess to bring down all the other tyrants in the kingdom. But when it comes to Soo Won, there seems to be more to the story than meets the eye, as a chance encounter shows. Even Hak is questioning, internally, the way the kingdom used to be run, which makes me think this is not going to be a straightforward story of her getting back her throne. There is probably going to be a lot of heartache involved, but we kind of knew that from the start.

There's also a hilarious 'AU' side-story in which her father is not murdered by Soo Won, and she marries that Fire tribe brat, only he gets constantly thwarted in romantic attempts by Hak Son. It is pretty entertaining, but I definitely like the main story better!
  • This series continues to remain as my all-time favorite. This wraps up a story arc and shows some vulnerable moments for Yona. The beautiful art this cover makes it a great addition to your shelf, but if you love the convenience for the e-version that's okay too!
